Orchid Phalaenopsis

$25.00

The Falinopsis orchid is an herbaceous plant of the tribe Vandaceae in the family Orchidae. It is native to the humid forests of Southeast Asia, Australia and the Philippines. Most of these orchids are epiphytes, as they grow on trees, but in some cases they can be found growing on rocks. Georg Rumph, a German naturalist, was the first to find it when he was in one of the Moluccas Islands. The orchid was named phalaenopsis by Karl Blum, director of the Leiden Botanical Gardens, who had once looked at it through binoculars and decided that its flowers were true butterflies and that phalaenopsis just means “like a moth”. Today, this flower is sometimes referred to as “butterfly orchids.” This genus includes about 70 species. This plant is very popular with florists because of its elegance and effect, and also because of the fact that this orchid is relatively easy to care for.
